14-year-old from Lake City Feels God has Called him to Hold Christian Music Festival: “I Look at Music as a Tool to Help Glorify God’s Kingdom”

PrayerFest-1100x840A young teenager from Lake City helped to organize a Christian music festival that he hopes will have a positive impact on those who attend.

Dausin Olberding, 14, is hosting PrayerFest. The event is Saturday at City Square, 100 N Center St., Lake City. Gates open at 1 p.m. Festivities begin at 2 p.m.

“I just felt like I have been called to do this for quite a while and finally, this January, I realized no one else was going to do this and realized our area really needed something like this,” he said.

Olberding, who will be a freshman at Kuemper Catholic School in Carroll, did much of the planning and scheduling of events, he said.

“It was definitely challenging,” he said. “I have put most of my time into this. We have been praying for this. It’s been a struggle, but it’s been worth it.”

PrayerFest is a freewill donation, family-friendly music festival. Bands featuring local church worship teams, Stephan Witt, J. Crum, and Dave Owens will perform.

Attaboy will headline the concert.

Olberding said music is an important aspect of worship.

“I look at music as a tool to help glorify God’s Kingdom,” he said.

Speakers, including TaMara Hanscom, Ryan Payne and Terrence Lee Talley, will also be on hand.

Hanscom, of Sioux City, is a Christian author.

“She writes books for adults that are encouraging to help them live their godly lives and live to their full potential,” Olberding said. ‘She will be speaking about how prayer is a very powerful tool we are given.”

Payne, of Huntington, Indiana, is the lead singer of Attaboy.

“He went through some struggles in middle school and high school, and he’s used those struggles to encourage others,” Olberding said.

Talley, of Minneapolis, will share his experiences growing up in the Twin Cities. His theme will be “never giving up,” according to Olberding.

He said the event is open to anyone.
