Kenova, West Virginia native Michael W. Smith has earned three GRAMMY’s and 45 Dove Awards, scored 32 No. 1 hits and sold more than 15 million albums.
The member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame will pick up an award from his home state this year, as the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame has announced Smith will be one of the six inductees for the class of 2018.
“The six inductees for 2018 represent another incredibly diverse group of accomplished musicians from the Mountain State that have left their mark on this country’s music,” West Virginia Music Hall of Fame Director Michael Lipton said.
“We are excited to recognize these artists and hope that it is a source of pride for all West Virginians. I hope people will take a moment to check out their careers and their music. In many ways, these musicians have been ambassadors who spread the word about our wild and wonderful state and, no matter what your tastes—from traditional to outsider—I believe there will be something that speaks to you and resonates in your soul,” Lipton said.
The induction ceremony will be held February 10, 2018, at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, WV.
