In just one short calendar year, everything fell into place for Stephen Curry. He got a signature sneaker, one that had been in the making for a few seasons. He became the world’s most popular basketball player, a human Vine that dominated social media. He won the game’s greatest individual and team honors. He pushed Under Armour–the one brand that seemed to understand his worth and believe in him–to new heights within the basketball market. And now, the 6-3 Curry is back to do it all over again.
This summer, for the first time with UA, Steph is visiting China, Japan, and the Philippines, where the “Iron Sharpens Iron” colorway (as well as three others) of the Under Armour Curry Two will officially go on sale on September 6 (China) and 7 (Japan and the Philippines). The global launch will follow on October 24.
The Under Armour Curry One certainly benefited from last year’s perfect storm. If Golden State had won 40 games and failed to make the playoffs, no one would be talking about this line as one of the rising stars of the sneaker culture. Rarely do you see a product, brand, and player merge so successfully. And now with a new season on the horizon, the UA team is finally ready to introduce the world to the Curry Two, a silhouette that’ll feature a full-length Charged Cushioning midsole to help absorb impact and improve change of direction, and a SpeedForm seamless upper that’ll mold to your foot through a breathable, stable skin. The Curry Two will also have an external heel counter and an organic herringbone traction pattern.
In the “Iron Sharpens Iron” colorway, a grey upper is contrasted by a perforated back layer of yellow. There’s also a gradient orange and yellow midsole with detailed speckles.
“The first time I put my foot in the Curry Two, I knew having Charged Cushioning through the whole shoe would be a performance difference-maker,” Curry said in a release. “I’ve been wearing the Curry Two all summer in my workouts, and I’m excited that the design and performance of the shoe will not just enhance my game, but it will provide all basketball players with real innovation that works.”
It’ll be hard for Stephen Curry, Under Armour, and the Golden State Warriors to top last season in 2016 and beyond. But this is a great place to start.
