Thousands of people turned out for Palm Sunday mega-worship at Baylor’s McLane Stadium in Waco for “The Gathering at the river.”
The event was put on by a team of local pastors and volunteers.
The night featured the famous gospel band Israel and New Breed and testimonies from local celebrities Baylor Quarterback Bryce Petty and HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gains.
Then special speaker and Pastor Tony Evans gave a brief message.
Teresa Ross says the message for the day was to stand up for Jesus.
“He said everybody else is coming out of the closet, so Christians might as well come out too,” says Ross.
People traveled from as far away as Dallas and Houston and entire congregations were bused in from Belton to attend the ceremony.
Worshippers told News Channel 25 the event was better than expected.
“It was certainly what I hoped for,” says Rose-Mary Stovall.
“We’re just so excited that all the churches came together and there was unity,” says Scheryl Lenamon.
Attendee Joy Endsley says the day was all about unity.
“We were sitting with a variety of people and there was this sweet spirit of just oneness that I know was the purpose for this,” says Endsley. “I mean you felt it, you sensed it.”
Everyone called the mega worship a success and said they would come back in a heartbeat if there were another one in the future.
