After 2015 Nominations Announced, Twitter Declares ‘#OscarsSoWhite’

The 2015 Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning, and of all movies, actors and artists snubbed for a nomination, none caused more outrage than the snubs for Selmathe new biopic of Martin Luther King Jr.

While the film was nominated for best picture and best original song, the film was left out of categories like screenplay and editing, and director Ava DuVernay and star David Oyelowo were both snubbed. And when it came to diversity across all the nominations, the snubs went beyond Selma: Of the 20 actors nominated, none are people of color.

The nominations prompted outrage on Twitter where the hashtag “#OscarsSoWhite” began trending as people voiced their discontent with the Academy’s history with diversity. Here are some of the reactions:
