Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Islamists killed at least 22 soldiers on Thursday after a surprise attack in which they used speedboats in a failed bid to seize some of Libya’s main oil terminals. The fighting in the oil-rich region came as pro-government forces lost ground to Islamist militias in the eastern city of Benghazi, where jihadists beheaded six people and killed 14 others. The militiamen belonging to the Libya Dawn militant group, launched the attack on Al-Sidra port by firing rockets from speedboats, setting an oil tank on fire. Soldiers damaged three of the vessels before clashes in which the militants were eventually repelled.
Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Algemeiner, In a recent TV interview, Iraq’s Grand Mufti Rafi Al-Rifa’i, the highest Sunni authority in the country, accused the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Iraqi Government, and Iraqi Shiite Militias of mass genocidal killings and rape of Sunni men and women. The IRGC is the key Iranian governmental army. Unlike the regular Iranian Army. which is tasked with the regular military duties such as defending Iran’s borders, the IRGC conducts special forces, military intelligence, and overseas military/intelligence operations. Al-Rifa’i said that when an Iraqi Sunni town was “liberated,” many of the men were executed in mass numbers. Women and children were also not allowed to return to their homes and were left “without a roof over their heads.” He indicated that, while trying to solve the problem of ISIS, the American policy of attacking only Sunni terrorists is allowing Iranian terrorists to execute Sunni Arabs in Iraq and Syria.
Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Washington Examiner, U.S. Central Command said in a statement that The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria did not shoot down a plane being flown by a Jordanian pilot conducting airstrikes on the terrorist group’s targets in northeastern Syria, though they confirmed that ISIS is holding the pilot captive. It is the first time the Islamic State has held an allied troop hostage since the U.S.-led coalition bombing began in the late summer. The statement also quoted the commander of U.S. Central Command, Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, who is overseeing coalition military operations in Iraq and Syria, praising the valued role the Jordanians are playing in the ongoing operation against ISIS, vowing to support the pilot’s safe recovery and condemning efforts by the terrorist group to misrepresent or exploit his capture to bolster its image.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to CNN, Five Al-Shabaab militants are dead after they attacked an African Union military base in Somalia on Thursday. The militants attacked the Halane military base in Mo-ga-di-shu, Somalia’s largest base for African Union troops. Two militants detonated themselves inside the base and three were shot dead by AU troops during the raid. Three AU soldiers and a civilian died in the attack.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, the US-led campaign against ISIS included 10 air strikes in Syria on Wednesday and seven in Iraq. Eight of the strikes in Syria were centered around the contested border town of Kobani near the Turkish border. Two other strikes hit a crude oil collection point and an Islamic State weapons stockpile near Raqqa. The strikes in Iraq targeted Islamic State units and property in four towns.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 19:5-6 which reads: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Moses has now discharged his divine commission to return to Sinai with the liberated Hebrews. This was to be a confirmation to Moses of the Lord’s presence. All that now remained was for the people to worship YHWH in this locale, and Exodus 19 focuses on the preparations for corporate worship.
On Mount Sinai, the Lord gives Moses the first message he is to convey to the nation. In passionate language reminiscent of a groom charming his bride, the Lord reminds the Hebrews how He had rescued them and brought them to Himself. The Hebrews are described as the Lord’s personal property, His private possession, His treasure. The Lord had specifically chosen this particular group of people with whom to maintain a covenant relationship, and the reason they are so valuable to God relates back to His initial sovereign choice of Abraham and the establishment of His covenant promises, which were made to both the patriarch and his descendants, the nation of Israel.
The Mosaic Covenant is an unconditional gift to His people, but the multiple covenant blessings are completely conditional, dependent upon the peoples’ obedience and response. Israel is divinely identified as both a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, and is to remain distinct and separate from all other nations and, at the same, engage those nations on behalf of YHWH. Possessing a special relationship to YHWH and enjoying singular access to Him, they are to be His holy representatives on the international stage. Just as an individual priest’s function is to act as an intermediary between God and man and to make intercession on behalf of others, this corporate nation of priests is commissioned to intercede on behalf of entire nations.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from Matthew Henry. He said, “Christ will come when he pleases, to show his sovereignty, and will not let us know when, to teach us our duty.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
