Meagan Good doesn’t understand why being a woman of faith automatically means you’re no longer allowed to be sexy.

The Think Like a Man Too star has never been afraid to show a little skin. She caused a stir at the 2013 BET Awards when she presented the Best Gospel Artist Award in a dress with a neckline that plunged all the way to her waist.

It rubbed a lot of holy rollers the wrong way because she’s married to Seventh Day Adventist preacher DeVon Franklin. Many think she should be more modest in her look to be respectful of her husband’s role, but he’s never expressed a problem with it. Besides, Meagan doesn’t believe that being a Christian means you can’t be daring with your look.

“I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with being sexy,” she told Rolling Out magazine.. “God created our bodies as women. He created us to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be powerful, to be fearless—to be amazing.”

That said, Meagan understands that there’s a time and a place to keep it covered up. You won’t catch her trying to be sexy in the sanctuary because she doesn’t want to take the focus off of Jesus! She knows what’s appropriate for church, even if people have different ideas of what that means. She tries not to hold others accountable for her sensibilities.

“I feel like religion can get very judgmental and a lot of people don’t approach you with love,” Meagan explained, adding that she prefers to set her own standard instead of letting others dictate it for her.

“I try to be conscious of the responsibility I have as a Christian,” she continued. “If I did everything everyone told me to do or tried to please everyone, I couldn’t have my hair a particular way, I couldn’t wear certain clothes, I couldn’t play certain characters, I can’t hang out with certain people, can’t wear a certain amount of makeup—and you can’t let people run your life. You have to look to God. People will fall in line.”
