For the Rev. Al Sharpton, the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection is connected to the idea that “he knew he could rise” after enduring suffering — and in the same way people should remember that “no matter what unearned suffering you go through,” knowing you can “rise above” them and not become “the diseases that you fight” can make all the difference.

Sharpton made his remarks on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” on Wednesday, the Washington Times reported — and the MSNBC host couldn’t resist invoking someone whose political struggles remind him of such a momentous falling down and rising again.

“As I looked to President Obama at our convention last Friday, with all he took, he’s been able to rise politically again,” Sharpton noted.

“I’m not comparing him to Jesus, but I am saying that (for) every crucifixion there is a resurrection for those that believe.”
