If you’re a church leader, you need people praying for you—and you need to be praying for other leaders in your congregation. If you’re a layperson in your church, you need to be interceding for your church’s leaders. Here’s why, based on the Word of God:
- Hebrews 13:17– “Obey your leaders and submit to them, since they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”
We who lead will answer to God for how we care for your souls. That’s quite a challenge.
- Matthew 12:36– “I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak.”
Our ministries are based on our words, and our words reflect our hearts. We should never speak careless words.
- 1 Timothy 3:7– “Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.”
The lost world is often watching church leaders. Our lives must be so godly that we guard the witness of the gospel.
- 1 Corinthians 11:1 – “Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.”
We should live in such a way that we model Christ before others. That standard is beyond our capabilities on our own.
