Following Clemson’s win over Alabama in last night’s College Football Playoff National Championship game on ESPN, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson declared in an interview with ESPN reporter Tom Rinaldi that his team won because “It’s what God wanted; he picked us for a reason.”

“It’s what God wanted,” stated Watson following Clemson’s victory. “He picked us for a reason. Now, I talked to one of my coaches, and he said, ‘This is unbelievable, and it’s going to end the right way. Just keep believing in God and just believe in your teammates, and everything is going to fall into place.’ And that’s what happened.”

The Clemson Tigers faced Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship game presented by AT&T on Monday in what was a historic rematch of last year’s showdown between the two teams. Clemson went on to prevail in the final moments of the game, winning the national championship with a final score of 35-31.
