“Manchester by the Sea” lead star Casey Affleck echoed fellow actor Denzel Washington’s declaration that “God is love” when he delivered his speech after accepting the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama on Sunday.
At the beginning of his Golden Globe acceptance speech, Affleck expressed his appreciation for director Kenneth Lonergan and his co-star Michelle Williams. The “Manchester by the Sea” star also joked about producer Matt Damon’s decision to pass on the role, The Christian Post relays.
“I suspect you won’t be passing on any more movies in the future when I might be anywhere nearby,” Affleck told Damon from the stage. “I’ll take this one.”
An emotional Affleck also talked about how important his family is to him. At the end of his speech, the Golden Globe awardee repeated something that fellow actor Denzel Washington said a few years ago.
“I remember years ago, Denzel Washington was on stage, and he got up here and said, ‘God is love,’ and well, I agree, I guess,” said Affleck. “Thank you, Denzel.”
The “God is love” comment earned Affleck a thumbs up from Washington.
