Once again, Rob Bell has angered the Internet.
Bloggers for The Christian Post, Truth Revolt and other sites have taken umbrage with the former Mars Hill Bible Church pastor and author’s assertion that the church is “moments away” from embracing gay marriage.
Bell, appearing alongside his wife, Kristen, made the comment during a weekend episode of Oprah Winfrey’s “Super Soul Sunday” television show.
Bell’s comment in its entirety:
“We’re moments away,” Rob Bell said. “I think culture is already there and the church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense, when you have in front of you flesh-and-blood people who are your brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and co-workers and neighbors and they love each other and just want to go through life with someone.”
Michael Brown at Charisma News has an issue with that.
Under the headline “Rob Bell Trashes the Bible on Oprah,” Brown refutes the Bells’ remarks about gay marriage and promises to “pray for their repentance.”
Over at The Christian Post, columnist Matt Moore had this to say:
“The things that Rob Bell and Oprah Winfrey and the likes of them are saying regarding same-sex marriage do not, to any degree, represent the true Body of Christ. But let’s pray for them so that might change. Let’s pray that God would so radically transform them that their influence could be used for God-exalting truth and not man-exalting evils.”
