Tiger Woods is going to the Valley of the Sun.

The former world No. 1 announced on his blog Friday that he will start 2015 in the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The tournament, billed as the Greatest Show on Turf which annually attracts more than 500,000 people, is Jan. 29-Feb. 1.

Super Bowl XLIX will be played Feb. 1, 20 miles to the west in Glendale.

“It will be great to return to Phoenix,” Woods wrote on his blog. “The crowds are amazing and always enthusiastic, and the 16th hole is pretty unique in golf.”

Woods also committed to playing the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego the following week. Woods has won eight times as a professional at Torrey Pines.

“Torrey is a very important place to me,” Woods wrote. “My pop took me there when I was younger, and I have a lot of special memories of watching the Tour play there when I was growing up.”

Woods has not played in the Phoenix Open since 2001.
