A man who allegedly shot two Canadian police officers has been found dead in a private residence near the scene of the crime just north of Edmonton, Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Although they have not confirmed whether the man took his own life, police did not fire their weapons when they entered the home following an extensive area manhunt.
The two officers who were shot early Saturday morning at the Apex Casino were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle when the suspect opened fire on them. Constable David Wynn, 42, is in a “life-threatening condition,” while Auxiliary Constable Derek Bond, 49, remains in serious but stable condition.
RCMP Assistant Commissioner Marlin Degrand said officers are working to identify the suspect, who was known to police.
“This incident serves to remind us all of the dangers that our front-line responders everywhere face in the performance of their duties,” Degrand said.
