Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the Associated Press, President Vladimir Putin has signed a new military doctrine that describes NATO’s military buildup near the Russian borders as the top military threat facing the country. The document released by the Kremlin on Friday maintains the provisions of the previous, 2010 edition of the military doctrine regarding the use of nuclear weapons. It says Russia could use nuclear weapons in retaliation to the use of nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction against it or its allies, and also in case of aggression involving conventional weapons that “threatens the very existence” of the Russian state. For the first time, the new doctrine says that Russia could use precision weapons “as part of strategic deterrent measures.” The document doesn’t spell out conditions for their use.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Guardian, US forces and their allies staged 39 air strikes on Islamic State forces in Iraq and Syria on Thursday and Friday. Fighters, bombers and remotely controlled aircraft hit 19 targets in Syria while 20 strikes were carried out in Iraq. The strikes in Syria were concentrated on an area near the city of Kobani and destroyed buildings, a staging area and several fighting positions. Two large Isis units and four tactical units also were hit. ISIS, meanwhile, claimed it carried out a suicide bombing south of Baghdad on Wednesday that targeted Sunni fighters who oppose the jihadists. Thirty-eight people were killed in the attack.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Russia Today, Islamic State militants have reportedly shelled a city in the western Iraqi province of Anbar with chlorine gas-imbued missiles. The attack is said to have targeted a district with trapped and starving civilians. This is not the first time that ISIS jihadists have been reported to be using chemical weapons, as Iraq previously confirmed a chlorine gas attack against security forces on September 15. This time, however, the attack could have targeted civilians besieged by the militants. Media reports described the situation in the city’s district as dire.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, while speaking at a graduation ceremony for Israeli Air Force cadets, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning to Hamas, saying that Israel finds the group responsible “for every violation of the quiet in Gaza and we will act accordingly. Our preventative measures are wide, and the air force has a central role in carrying out this policy, in the air, at sea and on land.” Speaking a day after the IDF responded to sniper fire from Gaza with an air strike and tank fire directed against Hamas targets, Netanyahu said, “We will not accept attacks against us, not from Gaza, not from the Golan, not from the Lebanon border or from anywhere.”

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli military has rolled out Iron Dome anti-rocket batteries near two towns in the Negev as a precaution in the event that tensions in Gaza escalate to a full-blown conflict. Defense officials told Israel Radio that though they do not foresee a renewal of hostilities between Palestinians in Gaza and the IDF, the Iron Dome batteries are meant to guard against the eventuality of a resumption of rocket fire.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 19:7-8 which reads: ” And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Moses descends the mountain and communicates the Lord’s message to Israel’s leadership, who then broadcast the message to the people. The nation responds to the Lord’s invitation with resounding optimism, saying, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do!” Moses then ascends the mountain to relay the people’s response to the Lord.

The Lord then prepares Moses for a public demonstration of His establishment of him as Israel’s mediator and intercessor. It is crucial that the entire nation understand Moses and YHWH’s unique relationship and accept Moses’ divinely sanctioned authority. The Shekinah glory would publicly appear before Moses and converse with him, firmly establishing Moses’ credentials in the eyes of the people through what would be an audiovisual object lesson.

In preparation for the divine manifestation of the Shekinah glory on Mount Sinai, the people would have to go through a purification process. First, they would have two days to prepare, for on the third day the Lord would be manifest upon Sinai. Second, they had to wash themselves and their clothing. Third, they were to abstain from sexual relations to avoid the possibility of finding themselves ritually unclean. Fourth, Sinai was off limits; a boundary line was set around the mountain. Sinai would become holy during the time that the Lord’s presence was manifest on it—His manifest holiness instantly transforms any location into holy ground. The penalty for any person or animal making even minimal contact with the mountain would be death by stoning or arrows. Having profaned God’s holiness, the violator himself would be off-limits; hence the prescribed forms of noncontact capital punishment. There would be only one period of time when the nation could even approach the mountain—on the third day, when a trumpet (the shofar, a ram’s horn) sounded the signal.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from C.S. Lewis. He said, “Precisely because we cannot predict the moment, we must be ready at all moments.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
