Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Jewish News Service, members of the European Union’s parliament on Wednesday passed a resolution supporting “in principle recognition of Palestinian statehood and the two-state solution.” The measure backs a Palestinian state based on Israel’s pre-1967 lines, borders deemed indefensible by the current Israeli government. The resolution—passed in a 498-88 vote, with 111 abstentions—also advocated “the development of peace talks” between the Israelis and Palestinians. The move comes after Portuguese, French, Irish, Spanish, and British legislatures all recently passed symbolic resolutions that recognized a Palestinian state, in addition to the Swedish government officially recognizing Palestinian statehood.
Second, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Reuters, an EU court ruled on Wednesday that Hamas should be removed from the European Union’s terrorist list saying the decision to include it was based merely on media and internet reports. However, the General Court of the European Union, the bloc’s second highest tribunal, said EU member states could maintain their freeze on Hamas’s assets for three months to give time for further review or to appeal the ruling. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the decision by saying that Israel was “not satisfied” with the explanations of the EU that Hamas’s removal is only a technical matter. He said, “The burden of proof is on the EU and we expect them to immediately return Hamas to the list where everyone realizes they should be. Hamas is a murderous terrorist organization whose charter says that its aim is to destroy Israel. We will continue to fight it with determination and strength so that it will never realize its aims.”
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the Associated Press, the White House said on Tuesday that President Obama will sign legislation imposing new economic sanctions on Russia, as the U.S. claimed some credit for sparking Moscow’s roiling currency crisis and moved to deepen the pain. Still, White House officials acknowledged there were no guarantees Russia’s economic woes and another round of sanctions would compel President Putin to curtail aggressive actions in Ukraine. The Russian economy has been in a downward spiral for months, but Putin has managed to maintain political support at home.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED PERSECUTION — According to Christian News Network, recent reports state that officials in the Islamic country of Saudi Arabia have passed a law that may impose the death penalty on Bible smugglers and any others distributing religious materials that are not of the Muslim religion. The HeartCry Missionary Society said, “The new law extends to the importing of ‘all publications that have a prejudice to any other religious beliefs other than Islam,’ In other words, anyone who attempts to bring Bibles or gospel literature into the country will have all materials confiscated and be imprisoned and sentenced to death.”
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, President Barack Obama used a holiday season visit to a U.S. military base to issue a tough warning to Islamic State militants, saying a U.S.-led coalition will permit no safe haven to the group and will destroy it eventually. The U.S.-led coalition in Syria and Iraq has had some successes against the Islamic State group but has yet to force a major rollback from the territorial gains the extremists made in seizing large swathes of Iraq last summer. Obama said gains are being made, however; hundreds of vehicles and tanks and more than 1,000 fighting positions have been taken out.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 12:13 which reads: “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
On the evening that the Lord came to destroy the firstborn males of all Egypt, both human and animal, He passed over the houses belonging to the Hebrews on account of the blood on the doorposts. The origin of the term Passover is a stark reminder that the Hebrews were not automatically exempt from the Lord’s judgment simply because of their racial status. Although the Lord had chosen to discriminate between the Egyptians and Hebrews from plagues four through nine, He changed that pattern here. From this point on in the collective life of Israel, Passover would serve as an annual object lesson and a lasting reminder of the necessity of blood to avert God’s wrath. And it was to be celebrated in perpetuity—that is, as long as the Torah was still in effect.
According to Exodus 12:22, hyssop, a small plant indigenous to the Middle East mentioned elsewhere in the Torah in relation to purification for sin, was to serve as the “paintbrush” for applying the lambs’ blood on the Hebrews’ doorposts and lintels. (In most Passover seders today, a sprig of parsley is used to symbolize the hyssop.) This application of blood created a zone of safety from God’s judgment, and no one was to leave the safe house that evening until God’s wrath had passed them over. God moved throughout Egypt that evening in the company of the angel of death, and He restrained the angel from entering any home covered by the blood of a Passover lamb.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from George Eldon Ladd. He said, “Jesus is now the Lord; He is enthroned at the right hand of God; He is reigning in His kingdom. But this is a Lordship and a kingly reign which is known only to believers. It must be confessed by faith. His Second Coming will mean nothing less than the Lordship which is His now will be visible to all the world. When we pray, ‘Thy kingdom come,’ this is what we are praying for: the effectual and universal rule of Christ in all the world, not only over believers.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
