Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the Associated Press, North Korea experienced sweeping Internet outages for 10 hours before coming back online late on Monday. One computer expert said the country’s online access was “totally down.” The White House and the State Department declined to say whether the US government was responsible. President Obama had said on Friday that the U.S. government would respond to the hacking of Sony Pictures, which he described as an expensive act of “cyber vandalism.” The US government regards its offensive cyber operations as highly classified.

Second, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to CBC News, a ‘swarm’ of earthquakes struck off the coast of British Columbia over the weekend. Earthquakes Canada reported five earthquakes measuring from 4.0 to 5.0 in magnitude, all striking about midway between the northern end of Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii on Saturday and Sunday. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a sixth quake in the ‘swarm’. There were no reports of damage, and the quakes were also not expected to trigger tsunamis.

Third, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, a senior official from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems said that Israel’s David’s Sling defense system will be able to intercept projectiles beyond Israel’s borders. Ari Sacher said, “David’s Sling has an interception range which ensures intercept before a threat enters Israeli territory. David’s Sling can intercept any rocket or missiles inside the atmosphere, and over enemy areas.” He added that, “Two David’s Sling batteries will cover the whole of Israel.” The David’s Sling system, which is being developed jointly with the U.S. firm Raytheon, is entering the production stage and will have initial operational capability in 2016.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Syrian army has claimed it shot down an Israeli reconnaissance drone flying near the occupied Golan Heights. Syria’s official news agency said, “A military source announced on Sunday night that an Israeli unmanned drone had been shot down close to the village of Hader” near the Golan Heights. It added that the downed aircraft had a range of 12 miles and had been piloted remotely from a ground station. An Israeli military source would not comment on the reported downing but did not deny the incident.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Bloomberg, North Korea’s alleged ability to hack into Sony Pictures is extending the country’s reach far beyond the range of its missiles. While North Korea has kept Western defense officials guessing for years about a nuclear program that it may or may not ever use, the regime’s ability to wage cyber war adds a new dimension to its standing abroad. Bruce Klingner, senior research fellow on Northeast Asia at the Heritage Foundation, said, “There is this image that North Korea never carries through on its threats. But it sometimes does carry through. You can’t always dismiss North Korea threats as simply being words.” South Korea has already accused the North of numerous attacks over the past five years, and now Pyongyang may be showing its global reach.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 14:13 which reads: “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

After the people of Israel are freed from Egyptian bondage, Moses leads them to camp between the wilderness and the Red Sea. One last time, Pharaoh hardens his heart and changes his mind, and he decides to send his army to chase after the Israelites. With Egypt’s slave labor force set free and departed from their midst, the question arises as to just who would set about the task of rebuilding Egypt’s cities from the monumental devastation wrought by the ten plagues sent by YHWH. Pharaoh’s change of heart and mobilization of Egypt’s great military machine would afford YHWH a final opportunity to impress His glory upon the Egyptian people. Pharaoh mobilizes a vast military force, which is led by 600 of his select charioteers. The king and his army, traveling much faster by chariot than the unwieldy two million Hebrews on foot, quickly approach their former slaves as they camp by the seaside.

In terror and surprise, the people of Israel, noticing the dramatic approach of Pharaoh’s army in all its strength, cry out to the Lord. Their prayer, however, is not one of supplication but of protest. They complain to Moses that they would have been better off as Egyptian property. They remind Moses that they had initially rejected his leadership and had asked him not to upset the status quo. They may have been slaves, but it was better to be a living slave than a dead freeman. Typical Jewish ironic humor even becomes apparent when the rhetorical question is asked of Moses as to the need for the Hebrews to be buried in the desert for want of available graves in Egypt, a nation that prided itself on studding its landscape with the most extravagant and elaborate graves in the world, the pyramids.

Moses responds with a twofold command: “Do not fear! Stand by.” He then said the Hebrews would never see the Egyptians again, and the Lord Himself would fight this battle on their behalf. That day they would witness the salvation of the Lord and see the mighty and unprecedented deliverance of His people.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from William Freel. He said, “As Christians, we should not be exitists, looking for our going, but adventists, looking for his coming.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
