Local nonprofit Special Kids announces that they have been chosen for a long-term partnership with Harper-Collins Christian Publishing. HarperCollins Christian Publishing will invest $25,000 in its next fiscal year to help Special Kids expand their pediatric nursing unit by serving more children through an educational program called TEAMM (Therapeutic Education and Medical Monitoring).

“HarperCollins Christian Publishing’s support for Special Kids has taken our program to a new level,” said Chris Truelove, executive director of Special Kids. “We are honored that they have chosen to continue their partnership with us, and we look forward to maintaining a long-term relationship with them.” Before being integrated into HarperCollins Christian Publishing, the Thomas Nelson publishing group supported Special Kids and its pediatric nursing unit for the past three years.

The HarperCollins Christian Publishing grant will assist Special Kids in creating a preschool learning environment for children who are medically fragile to work alongside typically developing children. The current TEAMM program is provided to typically developing children of staff members in order to help the medically monitored children in skilled nursing reach their developmental goals. With upcoming facility expansion, Special Kids plans to grow this program by offering it to more children, hiring additional certified staff, and adding a reading center. Special Kids’ goal is to give children the optimal opportunity to succeed in their developmental goals and prepare for school.

“Working with Special Kids for the past three years has been a true blessing,” said Casey Harrell, director of corporate communications, HarperCollins Christian Publishing. “We look forward to our continued relationship and watching their program grow and serve the children in our local community.”
