Make some room, skateboarders, motocross riders and other extreme athletes. Joining you at the X Games in June are some top eSports pros.
Professional video gamers from the Major League Gaming circuit will compete at the upcoming ESPN X Games competition June 6-8 in Austin, Texas. Eight of MLG’s best Call of Duty teams including the top three finishers from the recent Call of Duty Championship – CompLexity, EnVyUs and OpTic Gaming – and the top five teams on the league’s rankings will compete in a three-day tournament for medals.
The competitions will be part of the ABC and ESPN broadcasts. “X Games is thrilled to include Major League Gaming into the overall content mix,” said Tim Reed, senior director of content and events for ESPN X Games in an e-mail exchange. “Gaming, sports, music and interactive are a huge part of youth culture, and the inclusion of Major League Gaming is a perfect fit to the X Games events and brand. The MLG X Games Invitational will bring new fans and audience to the festival and we are looking forward to hosting everyone in Austin.”
The complete tournament will air exclusively on MLG.tv and on MLG apps for Xbox 360 and mobile devices. Want to attend in person? Tickets for X Games Austin are on sale at Ticketmaster. A limited $189 3-Day Major League Gaming Premium Upgrade package is available, too. It offers a behind-the-scenes tour, meet and greets with top Call of Duty players, a gift bag including MLG merchandise, gaming gear and more.
“This collaboration with X Games will help further bring MLG to the mainstream,” said Don Reilley, MLG’s executive vice president of sales.
